Welcome to Dancing in the Streets temporary page as our website is currently under reconstruction.

Since 1984 Bronx-based Dancing in the Streets, continues to build a legacy developing movement-based projects through long term initiatives, integrating rigorous inquiry, artistic exploration, deep community engagement, and the nurturing of NYC’s performing artists.

Over the years our work has generated over 650 dance commissions, site specific dance works, block parties, dance cyphers, dance workshop series and multi-media pieces on the streets, stages and screens of NYC.

Most of our events have been free.

Since 2015 our primary program has been It's Showtime NYC! cultivating creative excellence within the next generation of NYC’s street/club dancers by providing unique experiences connected to careers within the dance and performing arts world. We advocate for, and highlight the recognition of, street/club dances as seminal American artforms and folkloric movement cultures within the performing arts sector.  Our vision is being a leading talent incubator for street/club dancers in the NYC metro area by investing in the dancers’ creative maturity; building community; creating space for future ambassadors in street/club dance, spreading the dance forms through schools, stages, studios and the screen.

Please visit It’s Showtime NYC's website for more information.

Dancing in the Streets’ treasured archives now live at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

An evolution and a move to the South Bronx, positioned the organization, and former Executive Director Aviva Davidson, to passionately focus on the social and street dance cultures and forms pioneered and practiced in the Bronx. Dancing in the Streets partnered with hip hop, breakin, litefeet, vogue, flexN, poppin and other street dance pioneers to present their curated projects capturing an essential era of the Bronx’s hip hop revolution.

In 2015 the Mayoral administration asked Dancing in the Streets to develop a program for NYC's street dancers who were busking illegally on the subways. The goal was to provide a professional development program that would provide self-taught street and subway dancers access to NYC's cultural economy. It’s Showtime NYC was developed and now serves as Dancing in the Streets’ primary program.
